Urbanization and economic progress have made green hilly terrains in the
surrounding neighbourhood bare level land. I am
concerned that one day my children will not be able to experience the
“kampung” atmosphere I have so enjoyed as a child.
Though
efforts have been made by the ministry to promote a green environment through
promoting recycling programmes, I have yet heard of a move to keep our environment green
by recycling greens. During walks with my children in my housing estate, I see pruning been discarded
indiscreetly at the public gardens and along sidewalks.
I am sure that this is a common sight in any housing estate in the
country.
What we need is for developers to create a compost site in the gardens and
backyards of homes that will enable residents to dump their green waste, such
as, grass clippings, leaves, tree pruning, fruit and
vegetable scraps. If you are
wondering, compost is just recycled plant matter.
Decomposition converts the green waste into valuable garden soil in a
matter of weeks. If this proposal
can be implemented, it will mean less waste and more foliage in sight.
Maybe the relevant ministry should make
building compost sites a mandatory act for any new development.

On a personal level, I have set up this website to provide “how to”
information for people who are interested to find out how they can keep the
environment green. I have provided
links to other websites that promote reducing waste and conserving earth’s
natural resources.
I hope the information I have on this website will motivate house owners with green fingers to consider
making compost out of their cuttings or cultivating them, instead of discarding them. Arouse everyone to
consider giving
their surplus greens away to friends or charitable organisations to help spruce
up and keep our environment green. If
community efforts were made to consolidate such a green collection, there would
be enough plants to sell during a backyard or neighbourhood fair
to
help raise funds for the needy.
Do
your part. Share green
information on this website with your friend.
Nothing last forever, so, learn to make the most of earth’s natural resources.
If you come across companies who advertise only on one side of
their flyers, request them to print information on keeping the environment
green on the reverse side. If they need help with such information
request them to write to
GreenBeings
or copy and paste link below and email it to
them:

As
for my children, I may not be able to plant a tree for every tree felled but I
will plant in them a seed of love for nature and make keeping the environment
green part of their moral education. May this upbringing inspire them to
continue my efforts in keeping the environment green.
This is my legacy to my future generation.
Enjoy.
